SPEC Kit 313 E book Collections

SPEC Kit 313 E book Collections

Library users are increasingly accustomed to and expect immediate access to materials and are comfortable with electronic formats, thus making an e-book collection attractive to an academic library and its clientele. E-books can be read online or downloaded in various formats (epub, pdf, mobi, etc.) to be read on various devices (cell phones, PDAs, dedicated readers, tablet PCs, laptops, etc.). Works can be born digital, turned digital from print, released simultaneously in digital and print, or any similar combination. E-books can be free, purchased singly, purchased as a package, or leased. This survey is designed to examine the current use of e-books in ARL member libraries; their plans for implementing, increasing, or decreasing access to e-books; purchasing, cataloging, and collection management issues; and issues in marketing to and in usage by library clientele.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Excellent Book – Highly Recommend

This book is excellent for providing encouragement to not only writers, but to non-writers who might be looking for a way to increase their incomes. Everyone has a “song” or “story” inside them that is eager to get out. Now they can write that story or provide the song and people will pay for it!

5 Stars How to Write and Publish Your Own eBook in as Little as 7 Days
Great intro to writing an e-book. I learned so much and I now understand the value of an e-book!

1 Star a waste of time and money
Here is a bunch of sales pitchs for Joe Vitale books and stuff, and no real value when it comes to publishing your own book. You will learn more from the instructions for the software you use to write documents than you can learn from this book. This book is a total waste of time and money.

5 Stars Really good!!
This is a type of book “How to” and I consider that in combination with Others of the same type is perfect to have a guide for the beginner that do not have experience in eBusiness. The only problem is that lack a little more deeping in the resources needed to do when a building an ebusiness .

1 Star should be called “Create eTrash in 7 days”
Creating eTrash is not something we should be encouraging. As far as creating books with word-processors like Adobe or Word, this book is a waste of time and money.

5 Stars I love my Kindle and I look forward to many years of use
I waited and watched other products get launched but in the end, I decided that the 2 most important features were available with the Kindle.

(1) Screen size: I wanted the largest screen possible since I wanted to use the ereader for reviewing PDF documents as well as books.

(2) Native PDF document capability: I am happy that this was added to the DX.

I bought mine after the Nook was announced, I had hoped that a more competitive product would be released. I am fond of Amazon for shopping in general so it would have been a bit challenging to get me to switch over to B&N for books.

Features and items that I’d like to see in the future are:

(a)More text books and academic books. I wish that I had the Kindle while in business school and that the text books were available as eBooks. Even though, I am done now, I like to reference and review things that would be easier to do if the books were available as eBooks. And I would love to trade the the text books in for eBook versions.

(b)Expansion of websites that I can navigate to in order to review my PDF documents.

(c) (Not possible in the current version but) speed up the processor so reading and replying to email is reasonable to do on the Kindle (Why not, there is a screen and a keyboard.)

(d) A future eReader that is child proof so that I can give one to each of my nephews in order to get them started with reading books and so that I can give them books throughout the year.

5 Stars FANTASTIC!!!
Is ALL that I hoped it would be. SO! easy to use! So! easy to get books… and SO! many free books!!

3 Stars Kindel DX Great for Books; Not for PDF in color!!!
I am really enjoying the capability of having the Kindle for downloading books; however, it is not as effective as I thought it would be. As a student I thought this would be a great tool for research projects where PDF’s and articles could be reviewed at anytime, any place. The Kindle does allow you to download PDFs, but it does not allow you to change the size of the font for reading purposes and if the PDF is in color….forget about reading it..quality is lacking in this area. I am disappointed in this feature. I would also love to have the capability of sorting the downloaded information; possibly setting up a file for books in one area, PDF’s in another…maybe I’m missing something, everything goes into the document file and you have to go through your entire index to find what you want, this will be a nightmare as I continue to add items.

5 Stars Enjoy reading!
My grandmother bought my first novel and opened my eyes to the joy of reading. The biggest problem has been storage space for all of my books. I have started to pick out volumns of my lesser liked authors and donate them to my local library. Another thought is the money that I have spent through the years. My Kindle DX is the “cat’s meow”. Storage is no longer a problem and the price for books insures great savings. The quality of reading a novel on a “Kindle” has not lessened because of not having a hardbound, colorful jacketed book in hand. I enjoy the built in features that make using the “Kindle” so easy.

The first one that I saw was being used by a gentleman in a waiting room. I asked him about it and he explained it with great pleasure. I was able to use some coupons from my bank which allowed me to upgrade to the DX model. I am happy that I did and I would not hesitate to purchase one again with or without savings coupons.

My daughters love to read and this will be a great gift for them.

Thank you very much for bringing the joy of reading to the 21st century.

5 Stars Reading On The Go
As advertised-great product, especially for anyone who is in seevral different places in a day. I also travel among 3 locations, so bringing reading material has always been a challenge, whether it be professional or personal reading.

A Short Course in Nikon D300 Photography book ebook

This book/eBook package is your guide to getting more interesting and creative photos with the 12.3 megapixel Nikon D300 digital SLR. It discusses every camera setting on this high-quality and very complex camera in a clear, well-illustrated style, with many integrated tips and QuickSteps, but it also does much more. You’ll also learn the concepts of photography as you learn why and when you use specific settings, not just how to set them. You’ll find that this guide helps you quickly master your camera so you ll be getting the kinds of photos you hope for.

The book is printed in black & white and has a well-liked spiral binding that lets the book lie flat or be folded back. The accompanying eBook on a CD disc is a printable and searchable full-color version of the same book in Adobe’s popular PDF format. It can be printed out in whole or part and read on a PC or Mac using the free Acrobat Reader or any current Web browser. This eBook also includes clickable links to 50 or so interactive animations that illustrate the core concepts of digital photography such as exposure compensation, lens focal lengths, histograms, and much, much more. (To use these animations you do need an Internet connection.)

Chapter 1 Camera Controls and Creativity explains how to take pictures in fully automatic point and shoot mode and how your camera captures digital images. See how to play back and manage your images; use buttons, dials, and menus; control image size and quality and select shutter release modes.

Chapter 2 Controlling Exposure explains how to use all of the camera s exposure modes and exposure controls to get photos that show the scene exactly as it is, or as you want to interpret it. Learn how to display and evaluate histograms and use the high quality RAW image format.

Chapter 3 Controlling Sharpness discusses how to control sharpness in your photographs and how to creatively use focus, depth-of-field, sharpness, softness, and blur creatively.

Chapter 4 Capturing Light & Color introduces light and color and how to use them creatively. Understand how they change throughout the day and seasons, how they re affected by the weather, and how light s direction and quality affects highlights and shadows. See how to set your camera s white balance to capture colors the way you see them.

Chapter 5 Understanding Lenses explains how to use your lenses and lens accessories creatively when photographing scenery, interiors, and people. See how wide-angle, normal, telephoto, and close-up lenses affect your images.

Chapter 6 Using Flash and Studio Lighting discusses how to creatively use your camera s built-in or external flash, indoors and out, and in good light and bad. Explore special techniques such as fill and slow sync flash. Learn about controlling flash exposures using flash lock and flash compensation. Learn how to use tabletop and studio lighting to get great product shots and portraits with simple setups.

Chapter 7. Other Features and Commands explains how to use live view and picture controls; retouch images; use active d-lighting; create multiple exposures; use the interval timer; bracket exposure, flash, and white balance; use My Menu and the setup, custom settings and playback menus. Finally learn about caring for your camera and cleaning its image sensor.

1 Star A Short Course in Nikon D300
The book was damaged when it arrived, reured the book and was refunded my money.

5 Stars Very Good Course
I found that this course book was excellent for helping me learn not only about how to use my Nikon D300 but also good at covering basic photography information as well. This is not just another course on what the D300 features are but also how and when to use those features. I felt that the writing style was very clear (not too technical) and did specially well at explaining more complicated subjects like exposure, histograms, lighting (white balance) and flash.

The illustrations were well done and clear to show parts of the camera and complicated topics as well.

Having the book in PDF format with hyperlinks was also a hugh plus. I was able to read the course on a plane during long flights without having to carry the bound version with me on the plane (I had to carry my laptop on with me anyway).

3 Stars Short Course vs Nikon users manual?
This useful course is designed to assist relatively new users of Nikon DSLRS of this calibre (pro level).

It almost succeeeds. On the positive side it sets out each section clearly and concisely and is backed up by the Ebook disc with animated practical exercises.

The negatives? – The book tends to gloss over some operational areas with the D300 or offers only scant reference to them.

It is not a high quality production for the price charged (not much better than a photocopied edition) and could have been so much better with the addition of colour. (you can produce a colour edition yourself by printing from the disc provided).

Overall though, the book works quite well and certainly demystifies some of the confusing data written in Nikon’s D300 users manual

1 Star A Short Course in Nikon D300 Photography
This is a “cookie cutter” copy of the book I purchased for my Nikon D80. All the author did was update the information from one camera to the other. Very dissapointing, not to mention overpriced. The features of the D300 were not covered very throughly and a lot were left out completely. A much, much better book is David Busch’s “Nikon D300 Guide to Digital SLR Photography” and is also less expensive.

1 Star poor
complicated. The Cd does not work. Quality is so poor that it peels off within your computer creating problems to retreive the debrie
